Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Astrology refers to the study of the impact of light as seen from Earth in the cosmos on the physical and psychological existence of human beings. This field is based on the belief that the light emanating from celestial bodies such as the Sun, the Moon, the planets, and stars can have significant effects on people's lives. Astrologers use this knowledge to predict future events in a person's life. The process of predicting future events involves analyzing a person's horoscope, which records the positions of the various cosmic bodies at the time of their birth.

The antiquity of astrology dates back to the Vedic culture, which is believed to be around 5000 years old based on radioactive tests conducted on the earliest texts referring to Vedic astrology. However, the basis of Vedic astrology is Vedas, which are information 'as received' from a higher source and passed on through oration from one generation to the next. Therefore, the antiquity of Vedic astrology can be traced back to the history of human civilization itself.

A horoscope is an ancient form of birth certificate used in astrology. It records the positions of the various cosmic bodies relevant in Vedic astrology at the time and place of a person's birth. From this information, astrologers can make various predictions about different areas of life, such as wealth, career, and marriage. A horoscope is the only document in human history that can make accurate predictions about love and romance.

A Zodiac refers to the 360-degree sky as seen from Earth. This map of the sky is divided into 12 houses, with each house having its distinguishing characteristics. The beginning of the Aries sign is traditionally seen as the 0-degree beginning point of the 360-degree Zodiac in Western astrology. However, this changes from region to region in Vedic astrology.

There are nine planets in Vedic astrology, including the Sun and the Moon. In addition to the traditional planets from Mercury to Saturn, two shadow regions called the lunar nodes, where the paths of the Sun and the Moon intersect as seen from Earth, are also given planetary status due to their impact on a person's life. Rahu represents the ascending node, while Ketu represents the descending node. Western astrology does not recognize these shadowy planets but includes the 'modern' planets of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

Zodiac signs refer to the 12 divisions of the 360-degree Zodiac chart that represent the positions of the relevant lights as seen from Earth. Each of the 12 signs, namely Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces, has a unique character associated with it, categorized as either watery, fiery, airy, or earthy. These signs are also referred to as Rashis in Vedic astrology, and their names may vary based on the region.

Horoscope signs, on the other hand, are determined by the person's birth sign. The distinct character traits associated with each of the 12 signs are based on the person's birth sign. For example, Aries-born individuals are fiery and competitive, while Taurus-born individuals are relaxed and enjoy good food and nature.

Astrological Houses refer to the 30-degree divisions of the 360-degree Zodiac chart. There are 12 Houses or Bhavas, and each House has a duration that is determined by the time the Sun or Moon spends in that House. The first House or Bhava is typically the birth House and is taken as the starting point for the chart. The Houses are categorized into three groups:

  • Name, Contact Information including Email Address
  • Demographic information such as postcode, preferences and interests
  • Other information relevant to customer surveys and/or offers

In Western Astrology, the position of the Sun at the time of birth is used to determine the Houses, while Vedic Astrology uses the Moon. Understanding both Zodiac Signs and Astrological Houses can provide insight into a person's character traits and life experiences.

Astrology aspects define the relationship between planets in the chart. There are five different kinds of astrology aspects.

Conjunction - Two planets are said to be in conjunction when they are positioned in the same sign in the chart. When this happens, the qualities of the planets get added to one another

Sextiles - Sextiles happen when the planets are 60 degrees of two signs apart. Here the planets share a reasonably good relationship as neighbours.

Squares - Squares are formed when the planets are three signs or 90 degrees apart. As squares, the planets act as enemies of one another.

Trines - A trine happens when the planets are four signs 120 degrees apart in the chart. Here the planets share a healthy relationship.

Oppositions - Opposition happens when the planets are placed on opposite signs or 180 degrees apart in the chart. The relationship between the planets is hostile, though not as much as squares.

There are many kinds of astrology varying from region to region. The differences arise from the basic principles used in astrology to the different fields of life in which the principles of astrology are applied. Based on the principles used, Astrology can be broadly divided into Western Astrology and Vedic Astrology. Based on the applications, the main kinds of astrology are Natal Astrology, Horary Astrology, Electional Astrology, Mundane Astrology, Medical Astrology and Relationship Astrology.

Astrology is a very ancient and complicated science. The basis of astrology is the nine planets and their impacts on human life on Earth. In Vedic astrology, priority is given to Nakshatras or star constellations over planets. There are 27 such Nakshatras. The Zodiac chart is a 360-degree map of the sky which is divided into 12 regions of 30 degrees each which are called Signs or Rashis. The positioning of the planets varies within these signs with time. The placement of planets in different signs alters their character and the subsequent impact on life on earth, as does the position of planets concerning themselves.
